Nearly one week after killer tornadoes left more than 20 dead in Indiana, weekend tornadoes in Iowa killed at least one woman on Saturday and forced the evacuation of people from a college football game.
The twisters hit two counties Saturday in the towns of Stratford and Woodward. Along with the one confirmed fatality, a pair were injured and a natural gas leak led to the evacuations of hundreds of other residents from their homes overnight.
The storm’s winds broke windows on the outskirts of Ames, where tornado sirens had already sent college football fans gathered for the Big 12 Iowa State-Colorado game scurrying for shelter.
