Continental Western Insurance Co. has announced an $18 million expansion to its suburban Des Moines, Iowa location.
Continental Western and its parent company, Connecticut-based W.R. Berkley Corp., are negotiating the purchase of nearby building from Allied-Nationwide Insurance for a National Technology Center in Urbandale.
The company will begin relocating about 130 employees who are working elsewhere in the Des Moines area as well as other cities where it has offices, with 76 new workers being added over a five year period.
The center would support information technology needs of Continental Western and other Berkley-owned insurers.
Continental Western’s products range from general commercial policies to specialized coverage for banks, motor carriers and franchised restaurants.
