North Dakota Workers’ Comp Proposal Submitted for Ballot

Supporters of changing how North Dakota’s workers’ compensation agency is run have turned in petitions to put their idea on the November ballot.

The initiative would put the governor in charge of appointing the director of Workforce Safety and Insurance. Now, an appointed board has the power.

Bismarck attorney Steve Little is a supporter of the measure. He says the petition has 15,544 signatures. It needs the names of at least 12,844 North Dakota voters to get on the ballot.

August 5 was the deadline day for turning in petitions to Secretary of State Al Jaeger’s office. Jaeger now has a month to check the signatures, and see if the measure qualifies for a vote.
