The Gage County Board of Supervisors has again rejected a grant to hire an attorney to prosecute alcohol-related crime.
The board says it would cost the county too much in the long run because the grant did not cover insurance or support staff for the attorney.
In July, the board voted not to accept the federal grant, which comes through the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety.
The grant originally would have provided the county $44,000 for the first year and $33,000 for the second year. The county would have received $22,000 in the third year.
Gage County Attorney Randall Ritnaur had asked supervisors to reconsider after he contacted the highway safety office and it boosted the size of the grant to $96,370 a year for three years.
