Permits are available for people who want to harvest hay from alongside Nebraska state highways near their land. Applicants must prove they have $1 million in liability insurance.
Until July 30, those landowners will have first crack at harvesting the rights of way. After July 30, anyone may apply for the $40 permits.
Interstate and freeway rights of way are not included in the program.
The permits may be obtained from Nebraska Department of Roads area maintenance offices.
