Real Benefits Assoc. Told to Stop Selling Insurance in South Dakota

South Dakota Insurance Division Director Merle Scheiber has ordered a company offering medical benefits insurance plans in the state to stop the practice.

A temporary cease and desist order has been issued against Real Benefits Association by the South Dakota Department of Revenue and Regulation, Division of Insurance.

Scheiber said Real Benefits Association is not licensed to offer any insurance products in South Dakota.

On May 18, 2010, the Division of Insurance ordered Real Benefits Association, along with Serve America Assurance LTD, Beema-Pakistan LTD, and Viking Administrators, to stop transacting insurance business in South Dakota.

Those entities are not licensed health insurers or licensed discount medical plan organizations in South Dakota and are not authorized to sell health insurance or discount medical plans in South Dakota, the division’s announcement stated.
