Kansas Commissioner of Insurance Sandy Praeger named Tom Whalen as the Kansas Insurance Department’s new Producers Division director.
The division qualifies and supervises Kansas insurance agents and agencies. It issues agent licenses, gives exams and approves continuing education hours for agents, as well as conducting background checks.
Whalen has served as a policy examiner in the department’s Life division since 2006. Prior to that, he was an underwriting consultant, an underwriting manager and senior underwriter, primarily with Kansas Farm Bureau Financial Services in Manhattan. He has also managed the Manhattan Chamber of Commerce and has been a retail store manager.
Nancy Strasburg, who has been acting division director, is returning to her position as assistant director of the division.
