Columbus, Ohio, has agreed to pay more than $37,000 to the owners of one of more than two dozen homes damaged last year when a home exploded after a gas leak.
The Columbus Dispatch reports City Council members approved the settlement with David and Beatrice Hamilton on Monday.
The Hamilton’s made a claim with the city to pay for damage stemming from the March 2015 explosion in Upper Arlington. Nobody was seriously hurt.
Officials have said an old gas-valved box later marked as a water valve wasn’t properly sealed. A service line to the house from the main line also wasn’t disconnected.
The city attorney says this is a “good settlement” and that he believes some “sizable things” are headed their way.
Water fees will pay for the settlement.
