A large storm system spawned tornadoes along the Missouri Illinois state line late Sunday, Oct. 24, causing structural damage to residences and knocking out power.
The National Weather Service reported an EF-0 tornado struck Farmington, Missouri, about 75 miles southwest of St. Louis. The NWS said an EF-2 tornado hit Fredericktown, Missouri.
A separate suspected tornado moved through St. Mary, Missouri and crossed into Chester, Illinois, according to the NWS.
“There’s structures around the Farmington and Fredericktown area of Missouri that have been hit,” weather service meteorologist Jared Maples told the Associated Press. “Chester, Illinois, is another area that was hit hard.”
Chester fire chief Marty Bert told the AP that the western Illinois town had downed trees and power lines.
Felix Meyer, St. Genevieve County emergency management director, told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that several hundred people were without power in St. Mary.
