General Re Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway Inc., has named Michael L. Sweeney as chairman and chief executive officer of its aviation underwriting subsidiary, United States Aviation Underwriters, Inc. Formerly, Sweeney had been president and chief operating officer.
Sweeney replaces Harold J. Clark who retired from USAU on April 26, 2006.
After serving as a pilot in the U.S. Air Force, he joined USAU in 1974 as an aviation underwriter and held a number of progressively responsible positions. He was promoted to president and chief operating officer in January 1, 2001.
United States Aviation Underwriters, Inc. is the manager of the USAIG aviation and aerospace pools that provide a complete set of insurance coverages for owners, operators, manufacturers and maintainers of private, corporate and commercial aircraft.
