Early this year, Insurify caused a stir when it began what was thought to be the first insurance app with ChatGPT’s Open AI. In fact, the news momentarily shook the S&P 500 Insurance index.
On Sept. 23, the online insurance marketplace said it was cutting off a different personal AI agent.
Meta’s Muse has been blocked from accessing Insurify’s comparison platform because the information the AI agent spits out “risks stripping carrier quotes of critical contextual information that consumers need to make informed insurance-buying decisions,” Insurify said. The move protects consumers and insurers, it added.

Insurance Journal reached out to Insurify for additional comment. A spokesperson relayed, “Consumers are adopting AI agents fast. But insurance is not like retail. It is a regulated industry for a reason. We want to set a high standard for how the insurance industry works with agents. An insurance quote is an offer of coverage, not just a price.”

Therein lies the identified problem. Muse presents only price and omits other details such as limits, deductibles, discounts, eligibility, and disclosures. This prevents consumers from making an informed decision, Insurify said.
“A quote without its context is not a fair comparison. It is a number,” said Giorgos Zacharia, co-founder and co-CEO of Insurify. “An AI agent that extracts our carriers’ rates and feeds them into a stripped-down list serves neither the consumer nor the carrier. We support AI agents that make insurance shopping better, but they need to preserve the information and consumer control required to make an informed insurance decision.”
The spokesperson said Insurify has no exclusive relationship with ChatGPT, and the decision to block Muse was may not be exclusive either. “This standard applies to any agent, not just Muse,” the spokesperson said.
Insurify said it is willing to work with Meta on an integration of Muse that meets Insurify’s standards for privacy, security, and informed consumer choice. Right now, the information scraped by Muse creates a shopping experience outside of the consumer-protection safeguards Insurify said it has in place.
