A national insurance group says two apparent staged car wreck rings found by authorities in the Oklahoma City metro is part of a nationwide trend.
The National Insurance Crime Bureau says the number of schemes involving staged wrecks and false insurance claims are increasing. Bureau Special Agent Mark Wenthold says Oklahoma City investigators have given evidence in two local cases to prosecutors.
Wenthold says one local ring involved the same individuals and same cars over and over.
He says the other ring involved people who travel the country. He says they typically rent a large truck and smash it into a sport utility vehicle, then claim the SUV was full of people who suffered injuries.
