Louisiana State Sen. Dan “Blade” Morrish is barred from seeking the CEO’s job at Louisiana Citizens Property Insurance Corp.
That ruling was reaffirmed on May 17 as the Louisiana Ethics Board upheld an earlier advisory opinion, reports the American Press of Lake Charles.
Morrish, a Jennings Republican, chairs the Senate Insurance Committee and sits on the Citizens board of directors.
State law prevents someone who has served on a board from contracting with the board or being employed by the board for at least two years.
Morrish says the Ethics Board made the wrong decision because Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon hires the Citizens head, although the board approves the salary. Morrish says he plans to seek a court opinion on the matter.
Current Citizens CEO Richard Robertson plans to resign June 1.
