4.3 Magnitude Earthquake Recorded in Oklahoma

October 13, 2014

The U.S. Geological Survey has recorded a 4.3 magnitude earthquake near Cushing in north-central Oklahoma.

Cushing Emergency Management Director Bob Noltensmeyer says there are no injuries or major damage as a result of the tremor that was recorded at 8:51 a.m. about a mile southwest of Cushing. The area is about 50 miles northeast of Oklahoma City.

Noltensmeyer says the only damage reports are of pictures and mirrors falling from walls in homes and dishes broken as they fell from shelves during the quake.

Geologists say damage is not likely in earthquakes below magnitude 4.0.
