Voters in western San Antonio are choosing a successor for state Rep. Jose Menendez, who left office in February to become a Texas senator.
Four Democratic candidates squaring off are former San Antonio City Council member Delicia Herrera, ex-Bexar County prosecutor Ina Minjarez, firefighter Nathan Alonzo and insurance agent David Rosa
The race should conclude a parade of special elections to replace lawmakers who won different elected posts or left the Legislature after November’s election.
That’s when every major statewide office in Texas got a new occupant, though all remained Republican-controlled.
Menendez created the final vacancy by beating fellow San Antonio Democratic Rep. Trey Martinez Fischer to succeed state Sen. Leticia Van de Putte.
Van de Putte, also a Democrat, left the Senate to run for San Antonio mayor.
