A woman and her son are facing insurance fraud charges after the two allegedly faked injuries from an automobile accident, according to the Florida Department of Financial Services.
AIG Insurance Co. reported the suspicious claims after being billed more than $8,000 for personal injury protection coverage.
Marie Duclervil, 53, and her son Harry Charles, 32, allegedly went to Palm Chiropractic Clinic in Fort Myers last Sept. 30 claiming to have been in a motor vehicle accident, according to investigators with the Department of Financial Services, Division of Insurance Fraud. Charles and Duclervil produced a police report and claimed to have been passengers in a rental car from Miami that was involved in a minor parking lot accident in Fort Myers.
AIG National Insurance Co. Inc. investigators referred the matter to the Division of Insurance Fraud because a police report listed no passengers in either vehicle. The clinic billed almost $8,000 for treatment for Duclervil and Charles.
Duclervil was transferred late last week from Miami to Fort Myers, and Charles was arrested on July 2 and booked into the Lee County Jail. Fort Myers Police Department assisted. They are charged with one count each of insurance fraud.
The Lee County State Attorney’s Office, Economic Crimes Unit, is handling the prosecution.
