2 W. Va. Men Arrested on Felony Insurance Fraud Charges

July 17, 2007

West Virginia Insurance Department officials arrested two Cabell County men earlier this month on multiple felony charges including insurance fraud, third degree arson, conspiracy and burning insured property.

Insurance Commissioner, Jane L. Cline, said Richard Sturgill, 29, and Jeffery Maynard, 43, both of Huntington, allegedly burned a vehicle owned by Mr. Sturgill on March 18 and filed a false insurance claim for the loss. Both men were arrested July 10.

“Submitting fraudulent insurance claims continue to cost the citizens of West Virginia thousands of dollars a year,” Cline said. “With the cooperation of law enforcement throughout West Virginia, we will continue reducing any and all types of insurance fraud.”

If convicted, both men face a one to 10 year prison sentence and a fine of up to $10,000 on each felony count. Sturgill and Maynard were released on bond and no preliminary hearing date has been set at this time.
