Smoke from a wildfire burning for two days in North Carolina’s Sauratown Mountain has clouded the skies over Stokes County, and the fire marshal said the blaze led to several evacuations.
Fire Marshal Brad Cheek said a home and a youth camp on the mountain had to be evacuated over the weekend, but he said firefighters managed to keep the flames away from homes and buildings. The fire has affected more than 300 acres.
Gusty winds and extremely dry conditions have hampered the efforts of fire crews from Stokes and surrounding counties who are trying to control the blaze that has burned more than 300 acres.
Officials said they don’t know how the fire got started.
