The increased cost and shortage of salt may mean some slicker roads in parts of West Virginia this winter.
But officials in Lewisburg are hoping to keep their streets safe by using more cinders and less salt.
Public Works Director Mark Carver says the city will salt hills and intersections, which pose the greatest risk to motorists, and use cinders in other areas.
He says the cost of salt has tripled in the past year and there’s less of it available.
