The mayor of Rutledge, Tennessee says he had no choice in the firing of the East Tennessee city’s police chief.
Mayor Danny Turley said he fired Jeff Daniel after the former police chief refused to resign last week.
Daniel was suspended while the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation looked into assault allegations against him.
Turley told The Knoxville News Sentinel that the state Municipal Technical Advisory Committee advised Rutledge it could lose its liability insurance coverage if Daniel remained on the force during the investigation.
