Officials in Gainesville, Florida have a message for residents and visitors. Please stop stealing stop signs.
Since Jan. 1, the city has replaced 52 stops signs taken from 14 locations around the city. Officials say one location has been hit four or five times.
City officials said it costs about $100 to replace a stop sign.
With classes set to resume soon at the University of Florida, city officials are concerned about the possibility of an increased number of accidents. Visitors may not be aware of intersections that are supposed to be controlled by stop signs.
Stealing a stop sign is a felony under Florida law.
