Law enforcement and state officials recently took time to remember victims of impaired driving crashes in Tennessee.
According to state officials, Tennessee lost an estimated 349 lives in impaired driving crashes last year.
Driving while impaired can refer to operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, drugs or both.
According to the Washington, D.C.-based Governors Highway Safety Association, impaired driving is one of America’s most often committed and deadliest crimes. In 2010, more than 10,000 people died in alcohol-impaired traffic crashes.
The event was held at the Millennium Maxwell House Hotel in Nashville on Wednesday. Those participating included the Tennessee Governor’s Highway Safety Office, the Transportation Department, the Department of Safety and Homeland Security and representatives from the Tennessee Association of Chiefs of Police and the Tennessee Sheriffs’ Association.
