An investigation by several Mississippi police agencies has led to multiple arrests in an alleged multi-county prescription drug forgery ring and the discovery of a suspected human trafficking victim.
The Clarion-Ledger reports eight arrests have been made and the Clinton, Miss., police have indicated that over 30 suspects have been implemented in the case due to their information being used on the fraudulent prescriptions to obtain the controlled substances.
In a release, the department says officers have recovered 43 fraudulent prescriptions of drugs believed to be valued at over $100,000, including Oxycodone, Hydrocodone and Dilaudid, since August. The false prescriptions are believed to have reached much of the greater Jackson area with suspected distribution in Hinds, Rankin and Madison County, in addition to Warren County.
While serving an October 7 search warrant at an apartment in Jackson, Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics agents seized materials including computers, printers, hard drives and prescription grade paper as evidence of an alleged manufacturing fraudulent prescriptions. Drugs were also found at the residence.
During the search, agents became aware of a runaway teenager who had been reported missing in September 2014. The FBI is now handling her case.
The investigation is ongoing.
