Officials say severe storms that moved through Tennessee on Halloween knocking down trees and power lines led to the death of a man.
The Knoxville Police Department tweeted on Friday that 79-year-old George Walker was pronounced dead late Thursday, hours after a large tree fell on his vehicle as severe storms passed through the state. News outlets report Walker was driving when a tree fell in the high winds, hit some power lines, then crashed onto his van.
High winds also were blamed for damage in Claiborne County to buildings and homes. The National Weather Service reported that a tornado with winds of about 80 mph touched down in Tazewell at 11:45 a.m. Thursday.
After moving through Tennessee, the storms continued up the East Coast
