Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear is restoring a workplace safety board that was abolished by former Gov. Matt Bevin.
Beshear said on Friday the move to reestablish the 12-member Occupational Safety and Health Standards Board is an effort to strengthen safety in the workplace.
Bevin used an executive order in July 2018 to get rid of the board, effectively leaving the Labor Cabinet secretary to make decisions on workplace safety standards. Beshear, then the attorney general, opposed the move.
Beshear appointed all new members; there were no holdovers from the previous board abolished by Bevin.
“We’re excited that Gov. Beshear is putting the hard-working men and women of Kentucky first,” Bill Londrigan, president of the Kentucky State AFL-CIO, said in a release from the governor’s office.
