Alabama Gov. Kay issued a state of emergency yesterday after numerous tornadoes caused damage and deaths across the state.
Ivey said on Twitter Friday morning that crews would be out assessing the damage and getting services back up as quickly as possible.
“Alabama endured another long day of severe weather yesterday with several areas being hit hard by tornadoes & flooding. I’ll be working closely with state & local officials to see what resources are needed,” Ivey said.
The state of emergency was declared for 28 counties on Thursday as the weather system approached the state and later updated to include 46 counties.
Accuweather.com reported a supercell thunderstorm spawned a long-tracking tornado across parts of Alabama, leading to at least six fatalities, five of which came from outside Birmingham. The NOAA Storm Prediction center said at least 23 tornadoes had been confirmed across Mississippi, Georgia and Alabama, which took the brunt of the storm with 17 twisters.
