Incumbent Republican John King defeated Democratic challenger Janice Laws Robinson in the Georgia insurance commissioner race. King had 54% of the vote to 46% for Robinson, according to the results from the secretary of state.
King was appointed to the role in 2019 by Gov. Brian Kemp after the previous commissioner was indicted and later convicted of fraud charges. He beat Patrick Witt in the Republican primary in May.

King, a former police chief, has said he will work to restore Georgians’ confidence in the office, after the scandals that hit two former commissioners.
Robinson is an insurance broker who in 2018 came within a few percentage points of being elected the state’s first Black and first woman commissioner. Robinson has spent most of her career in the insurance business, part of it with State Farm, Nationwide and MetLife. Since 2014, she has managed her own insurance agency.
King was appointed commissioner after Jim Beck was forced out of office in 2019, just a few months after he was sworn in. Beck was convicted of fraud and money laundering after diverting almost $3 million from a homeowners insurer of last resort that he had managed.
