The underwriting and wholesale brokerage group known as XS Brokers is expanding into the Southeast and has named Adam Geiss as vice president, based in Charlotte, North Carolina.
“Charlotte, a vibrant and growing city, has strategically been on our radar for a while. Critical for us has been to identify the right person who is well respected by retail agents and brokers and our carrier partners and then position XS Brokers in the marketplace,” said Adam Devine, CEO of the Massachusetts-headquartered XSB.
Geiss has spent 15 years in the excess and surplus lines market, including senior roles at Hull & Co., a wholesale managing general agent, and he knows the Carolinas well, XSB said in a news release.

XS Brokers, founded n 1978, already has some office in the Southeast and in the Northeast.
Also in the Southeast, the Professional Insurance Agents of Kentucky (PIAK) have elected Matt Niehaus executive vice president.
Niehaus has spent years in state capitals, recently as principal with McCarty Strategic Solutions, where he lobbied for a number of trade associations, PIAK said in a press release. He previously served as deputy commissioner at the Department of Insurance, managing regulatory and legislative initiatives.
He also oversaw the Office of Legislative Services for the Justice and Public Safety Cabinet in Kentucky and was director of government affairs for the Home Builders Association of South Carolina.
At PIAK, Niehaus will aim to strengthen the association’s ties with businesses and lawmakers.
