Alabama DOI Posts New Data Call on Liability Insurance

August 15, 2025

The Alabama Department of Insurance wants new data on how liability coverage affects insurance claims costs.

In a bulletin posted Thursday, Commissioner Mark Fowler said the department has issued a data call to carriers of personal and commercial auto, personal and commercial umbrella, commercial general liability, and medical and other professional liability coverage. Homeowners insurance is excluded from the call.

Insurers will receive an electronic message from Risk and Regulatory Consulting, the actuarial firm handling the data call,. The message will include instructions, templates and guidance to help comply with the request.

The bulletin did not explain what prompted the data call, or what type of data will be requested. DOI representatives could not be reached immediately Friday morning.
