Calif. Insurance Commissioner John Garamendi announced the appointment of Nettie Y. Hoge as Deputy Commissioner of the Office of Policy and Planning at the California Department of Insurance (CDI).
Hoge, who is currently executive director of The Utility Reform Network (TURN), will join the Department on Nov. 3. She was previously Deputy Commissioner of Health Policy during Garamendi’s first term as Commissioner.
“I am elated that Nettie Hoge will once again bring her considerable talent and experience to the Department,” said Garamendi. “Her strong consumer advocacy background will serve us well as we work to build CDI, once again, into the best consumer protection agency in the nation.”
The Office of Policy and Planning identifies trends and develops policy to help solve significant problems faced by consumers and the industry. The work of the office targets issues such as lack of access to insurance and the rising rates of workers’ compensation, health and homeowners coverage.
Hoge, of Albany, served as executive director of TURN for the past eight years. TURN is a non-profit advocacy organization representing California residential and small business utility ratepayers. She earned her Juris Doctor at the University of San Francisco, School of Law, and a B.A. at Washington State University.
