Denver city officials say the federal government will cover $1.85 million worth of insurance the city bought for outside police who help with the Democratic National Convention.
Denver officials said Tuesday the insurance will cover liability and workers compensation. Neighboring cities wouldn’t send officers to Denver without it.
Denver officials had worried the insurance wouldn’t be covered by a $50 million federal grant for security.
The City Council has also endorsed three convention-related security purchases: $588,550 for a computer-assisted dispatch system; $677,560 for a unified mobile command unit and $947,364 for a wireless security camera system.
Deputy Safety Manager Mel Thompson says the cameras would be installed in downtown Denver.
