Cheyenne Aims to Tighten Taxi Requirements

July 21, 2010

Cheyenne, Wyo., may tighten its rules for taxi cab companies that operate in the city.

The council is set to vote next week on a requirement for taxis to display the vehicle’s commercial insurance policy.

The new rules would also require drivers to carry city photo permits and give customers receipts at the end of rides that would include mileage and the driver’s name.

Lt. Mark Munari says the changes would also allow police to inspect cab companies’ paperwork two to three times a year to make sure they’re up to date on insurance and other matters.

Joe Elkins of Better Checker Cab says some local companies cheat on insurance, making it more difficult for others to compete.
