Nevada Firm Pays $70k in Suit Over Pregnant Worker

April 17, 2013

A government contractor at the Hawthorne Army Depot in northern Nevada has agreed to pay $70,000 to settle a lawsuit over the firing of a pregnant woman and her husband.

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission announced the settlement Monday with Engineering Documentation Systems Inc.

The EEOC originally filed suit in U.S. District Court in Las Vegas in 2011 accusing the support services contractor of retaliation, pregnancy and disability discrimination.

The suit says the female technical assistant was subjected to derogatory remarks, denied an accommodation and fired due to her pregnancy & disability. Her husband also later was fired in retaliation for reporting the discrimination.

In addition to the payment for damages, EDSI has agreed to hire an EEO consultant to create and implement anti-discrimination policies.
