Southern California Mall Sued For Alleged Discrimination

August 6, 2013

A Southern California mall is being sued by a man who claims security officers racially profiled him and other black men.

The Torrance Daily Breeze reported Cortes Rex claims that guards at the South Bay Galleria in Redondo Beach called him a robber and routinely followed black male customers.

The Hawthorne man also claims that mall management asked some merchants to stop selling items with the themes of President Obama and his wife and instead to sell what the suit calls “white people stuff.”

The paper says mall executives couldn’t be reached for comment on the suit, which was filed about a week ago in Los Angeles Superior Court. A call left Sunday for the general manager wasn’t immediately returned.
