Gov. C.L. “Butch” Otter has issued a disaster declaration for areas on southern Idaho ravaged in recent weeks by wildfires.
The declaration announced Monday specifically targets Elmore County, where two large, complexes of fires have scorched thousands of acres and prompted evacuations.
But the order also covers other areas of the state where fires have been burning.
The declaration essentially allows the state to process quickly requests for resources and support from local officials for help fight the blazes.
