A Northern California man has been sentenced to five years in prison following his eighth conviction for driving under the influence.
The Santa Rosa Press Democrat reported 34-year-old Barton Riley Shafer will also be unable to get a driver’s license for 10 years after his release.
Shafer was stopped May 17 for speeding and was found to have a blood alcohol level of 0.17. The legal limit is .08.
In August the Santa Rosa resident pleaded no contest to DUI and driving with a suspended license.
He also admitted having been convicted of three previous felony DUI charges in the last 10 years and having served prison time twice on those counts.
He has been in custody since May.
