Another Power Outage Hits Large Southern California City

July 31, 2015

Hundreds of residents and businesses in Long Beach, Calif. will be without power until Friday evening, according to reports.

Long Beach, a city of nearly half-a-million, was struck by a power outage on Thursday for the second time this month. Initially roughly 30,000 thousand Southern California Edison customers were without power.

On Friday morning an announcement on the city’s website indicated power had been restored to most customers.

“As of this 6;00 a.m., approximately 250-300 customers are still without power. The area is still centered around 9th Street and Locust Avenue,” the announcement stated.

A similar fire on July 15 knocked out power to the city for roughly 5,000 customers, and power wasn’t restored for more than three days.

City officials took to social media to keep residents informed.

Vice Mayor Suja Lowenthal wrote on her Facebook page: “Generators are being deployed and a shelter is being opened.”

Some residents expressed their growing irriatoin at the city’s now recurring blackout problems.
