An Oregon woman has been awarded $315,000 after suing her friend’s parents over a fall from a zip line that was installed at their property.
The Oregonian/OregonLive reports a Washington County jury last week awarded the damages to 20-year-old Aaliyah Garcia-Guasch who broke both of her wrists and five vertebrae after falling from the zip line in 2015.
The lawsuit claimed the homemade zip line at the property of Shane and Kristal Nichols lacked key safety features.
Nichols’ attorney Timothy Heinson argued during the three-day trial that Garcia-Guasch was at fault and his clients instructed her to not use the zip line.
According to the suit, Garcia-Guasch claimed she felt pressured to use the zip line, which launched users from a tree about 20 feet high.
