A wildfire is raging through a large swath of western Sacramento Valley after igniting on Monday and spreading to 15,656 acres.
Evacuations were ordered in rural areas around the Sites Fire in Colusa County, which is burning roughly 70 miles northwest of Sacramento.
The fire is 5% contained, and the cause is unknown. The fire is burning primarily in grassland, and several structures are threatened, according to CalFire.
More than 741 firefighters, 49 engines, 16 dozers, nine water tenders and seven helicopters are battling the blaze.
Firefighters have battled back the other large fire in California. The Post in Southern California was driven by strong winds that forced the evacuation of more than 1,000 visitors to a recreation area and threatened nearby properties over the weekend.
That fire is at 15,690 acres and is 39% contained, as firefighters continued to make significant progress on the blaze, which saw minimal fire activity overnight, according to CalFire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
