For the first time in almost two years, entrepreneurial interests are introducing a new carrier to the California workers’ comp market. Western Compensation Insurance Company, a California corporation, was formed in early October 2003. The company made its initial filing with the Department of Insurance on Jan. 21 of this year and lists a Sacramento address in its incorporation papers. Other entities associated with the new carrier include Western Compensation Insurance Services Inc., created in late October 2003, and Western Compensation Insurance Holdings Inc., formed in early January 2004. According to Secretary of State records, William Trzos is listed as agent for process for each of the Western Compensation entities. Trzos previously worked for Arrowhead General Insurance based in San Diego. According to the Department of Insurance, Western Compensation plans to bring more than $100 million in capital to the workers’ comp market. The last company to step in to serve the workers’ comp market was Employer’s Direct, which began writing business in late 2002.
