The Fourmile Canyon fire burning in Colorado, which crept to within 5 miles of Boulder, has been dubbed the “most destructive wildfire in Colorado history.” As of press time, the fire destroyed 172 structures and incurred $8.3 million in claims. Numerous residences were threatened, according to the National Interagency Coordination Center. The fire had burned 6,250 acres and was 87 percent contained as of Sept. 13.

The number of acres destroyed in San Bruno, Calif., as a result of a Pacific Gas and Electric gas line explosion. The fire left seven dead, more than 50 injured and destroyed more than a dozen homes. California’s State Fire Department said more than 120 homes sustained some damage. PG&E set up a $100 million fund – up to $50,000 per household – to help victims. Victims who accept monies are not barred from filing a lawsuit against PG&E.
