Louisiana Department of Insurance Fraud shuttered the business of a New Orleans producer on felony theft violations in the amount of $250,000. Department fraud investigators served Claire H. Garin, 42, former business address: 4421 Conlin St., Suite 101, Metairie, with a cease and desist order and summary suspension of her insurance license for allegedly failing to account for or remit a total of $250,000 in conjunction with insurance-related business dealings between January 2002 and April 2004. The C&D order states that she has pled guilty to 50 counts of felony theft. She was sentenced to eight years in prison; the sentence was suspended and she was placed on five years of active probation. Garin has held a life and health license since 1990, which was suspended by the current action.
