Benjamin M. Lawsky announced his plan to leave the New York State Department of Financial Services (NYDFS) in late June after four years serving as the newly created agency’s first superintendent.

Lawsky was nominated to the NYDFS’s top post by New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo in 2011 and was subsequently confirmed by the New York State Senate. Cuomo hadn’t yet named Lawsky’s replacement as of May 25.

“I am deeply proud of the work our team has done building this new agency and helping strengthen oversight of the financial markets,” said Lawsky. “We have assembled a great team at NYDFS and I have full confidence that the critical work of this agency will continue seamlessly moving forward.”

Lawsky plans to start his own consulting firm in New York, advising financial institutions on technology and cybersecurity issues, according to media reports. He is also expected to serve as a visiting scholar at Stanford University later this year.

Marsh & McLennan Companies Inc. announced that Peter Zaffino, president and CEO of Marsh, has been appointed to the additional post of chairman of the company’s Risk & Insurance Services segment, which includes Marsh and Guy Carpenter.

Zaffino will continue to serve as president and CEO of Marsh, reporting to Daniel S. Glaser, president and CEO of Marsh & McLennan.

Marsh & McLennan also announced that Peter Hearn, most recently the chairman of Willis Re, will join Guy Carpenter as its CEO in May 2016.

Alex Moczarski will continue to serve as CEO of Guy Carpenter through May 2016. Upon Hearn’s arrival at Guy Carpenter, Moczarski will serve full time in his role as chairman of Marsh & McLennan International, and will continue reporting directly to Glaser.

American International Group Inc. announced that Brian T. Schreiber will assume the newly created role of executive vice president and chief strategy officer.

In his new role, Schreiber will oversee AIG’s global strategic planning efforts; mergers and acquisitions (M&A) and divestitures; and communications, which includes corporate marketing, brand, external and internal communications, digital media, and philanthropy and volunteerism.

Schreiber, who has served in various senior roles over the course of his 18-year career at AIG, will report to Peter D. Hancock, president and CEO of AIG.

Most recently, Schreiber served as deputy chief investment officer, which included managing a $200 billion asset portfolio.

The MEMIC Group, a workers’ compensation insurer based in Portland, Maine, promoted Stacey Foote to director of claims, MEMIC Indemnity Company, where she will oversee claim operations in the company’s territories stretching from New Hampshire to Florida.

Foote will report to Matthew Harmon, senior vice president of claims, The MEMIC Group.

Vermont Mutual Insurance Group appointed Terry Moore as vice president of underwriting. He will be based in Vermont Mutual’s Montpelier, Vt., headquarters.

Moore comes to Vermont Mutual from Safeco Insurance, where he served as assistance vice president and regional manager of Safeco’s New York and New Jersey region.

Associated Mutual Insurance Cooperative, a regional property/casualty insurer in Woodridge, N.Y., appointed Robert Wong as president and Claudia Dietz as vice president of finance and vice president of human resources.

Wong and Dietz succeed Zane Morganstein and Gary Bowers, respectively, both of whom recently retired after long careers with the company.

Wong joined Associated Mutual in January 2014 as chief operating officer. He has prior experience in real estate, hospitality and finance and was most recently chairman and president of Upper Hudson National Insurance, a position he held between 2010 and 2013.

Dietz joined Associated Mutual in January 2015 and holds over 20 years of accounting, actuarial and analytical project experience.

Selective Insurance Group Inc. in Branchville, N.J., announced the following senior appointments by its subsidiary, Selective Insurance Company of America:

George Neale to executive vice president, chief claims officer. Neale joined Selective in 2013. Prior to that, he served as executive vice president, chief claims officer for Commercial Insurance for Liberty Mutual.

Brian Sarisky to executive vice president, head of Specialty Lines. Sarisky joined Selective in 1991 as a corporate trainee and most recently served as senior vice president, chief underwriting officer for Commercial Lines.

Joseph Eppers to senior vice president, chief investment officer. Eppers joined Selective in March 2015. Before coming to Selective, he was a director at BlackRock.

Brenda Hall to senior vice president, chief strategic operations officer. Hall joined Selective in 2001 and most recently served as senior vice president, director of Field Underwriting & Business Intelligence.
