Farmers Insurance Group will close an insurance call center in Timonium, Maryland by the end of this year, a company official said. The move, done for financial reasons according to Carol Siegfried, Farmers’ president of group distribution, will eliminate 114 jobs. Farmers will be shifting the work to Grand Rapids, Mich.
Job cuts will begin Oct. 1, with the final cuts taking effect by December 31. In addition to telephone sales and service representatives, the layoffs will affect a number of underwriters.
