Neew Jersey lawmakers are considering ways to further restrict teenage drivers in New Jersey.
A bill before the Senate Transportation Committee would apply an 11 p.m. curfew on 17-year-old probationary drivers. It would also only allow one teenage passenger in the car with such a driver.
David Weinstein of AAA Mid-Atlantic says the proposals are based on data showing more than a third of teen crashes happen after 11 p.m. He says the potential for a serious accident goes up when there are more teenage passengers.
Weinstein, who was on the governor’s teen driving safety panel, says this is the first legislation from that group’s comprehensive look at how to make roads safer.
