A New Jersey fire department has paid a former volunteer $15,000 to settle her gender discrimination case.
As part of the settlement with Merrissa Garretson, members of the Clementon Fire and Rescue company will also undergo training aimed at preventing sexual harassment.
Garretson says another firefighter repeatedly made derogatory remarks toward her.
She reported them to town officials and was promised a thorough investigation. But she says nothing was done.
She says her gear was removed from her locker and she was left off trucks in favor of less experienced firefighters.
The state Division on Civil Rights announced the settlement on Tuesday.
