Arch Reinsurance Ltd. is opening a branch office in Zurich, Switzerland. The new office will focus on regional business that is complementary to the existing relationships of Arch Re in Bermuda. The new office will also have a strong emphasis on the broker market.
The office will operate as Arch Reinsurance Ltd., Hamilton (Bermuda), European Branch Zurich, and will be headed by two new executives.
Helmut Söhler will serve as president and chief executive officer, and Björn Bucher will be the chief underwriting officer. Both executives have extensive experience in various lines in Europe. Söhler was most recently a board member of Gothaer, a German mutual insurer, and Bucher was previously chief underwriting officer at Alea Europe. Söhler will report to Marc Grandisson, chairman and chief executive officer of Arch Worldwide Reinsurance Group.
