TigerRisk Partners LLC, the reinsurance broking and risk/capital management firm, announced that it has appointed Tony Ursano, a veteran investment banker and reinsurance expert, as its President. He will help “grow the firm’s business, identify and source the most efficient forms of capital available for TigerRisk’s clients as well as build a world-class merger and acquisitions advisory business,” working from the firm’s newly formed New York office,” said the announcement.
Ursano most recently served as CEO of Willis Capital Markets and Advisory (WCMA), focusing on merger and acquisition transactions, capital markets products and insurance-linked securities for the re/insurance industry.
TigerRisk CEO Rod Fox, former CEO of the U.S. operations of Benfield, commented: “In this new dynamic environment, it’s all about capital. Jim Stanard [founder and former head of Renaissance Re, and the Chairman of TigerRisk] and I have always been impressed with Tony’s skills and success in the marketplace.”
He indicated TigerRisk’s goal was to serve clients who “want the most efficient capital solution, whatever form that may take, and the best strategic advice possible. We also believe our solutions should be delivered globally in a holistic fashion, not just through separate units selling different products.”
Fox noted that Ursano “has a deep understanding of what clients need and the ability to find the optimum way to achieve it. With his many years of insurance industry and investment banking experience, key industry relationships and outstanding reputation, we know Tony can deliver on these goals.”
Stanard, acknowledged that he has known Ursano “for over 20 years – many of those years as a very satisfied client. I’m delighted that he is joining TigerRisk. Ursano began his career at Donaldson, Lufkin, and Jenrette and subsequently worked for SG Warburg, Merrill Lynch, and Banc of America Securities where he was global head of the Financial Institutions Group for nine years before being named Vice Chairman in 2008. With over 28 years as an investment banker focused on the insurance industry, he has been involved in more than 125 debt, equity and ILS capital offerings as well as more than 100 mergers and acquisitions.
