Swiss Re Corporate Solutions Promotes 2 in Engineering & Construction Team

Swiss Re Corporate Solutions announced that Faris Nimri, currently expert underwriter engineering, will be appointed to the newly created role of head of Renewable Energy with effect from May 16, 2022.

Based in Zurich, Nimri will report to Manuela Baroncini, head Engineering & Construction, Swiss Re Corporate Solutions. In this role Nimri will be responsible for growing Corporate Solutions’ renewable energy portfolio, both in construction and in operation. Moreover, he will be responsible for maintaining the company’s leading position in delivering risk transfer solutions for the various renewable energy segments, such as solar, offshore and onshore wind and battery storage. He will also coordinate Corporate Solutions’ Centre of Competence Wind (CoC Wind).

Nimri started his insurance career with Corporate Solutions in 2012, after having worked for nearly 10 years in the construction industry as a project engineering manager in Australia and the Middle East. Since his start with Swiss Re, he has mainly worked with the Engineering and Construction (E&C) Team and built up his know-how as an expert engineering underwriter, especially in the renewable energy segment.

Nimri holds a master’s degree in electrical engineering as well as an MBA from the University of Technology Sydney.

At the same time, Corporate Solutions announced that Cedric Wong, expert engineering underwriter will take on the role of head of E&C Wholesale Team in the UK, effective on Feb. 1, 2022. He will replace Jon Wiegand who has decided to leave the company to pursue new opportunities. In this role, Wong will be responsible for strengthening Corporate Solutions’ position in large, complex international engineering projects placed in the London market and in offering risk management solutions to Corporate Solutions’ customers. He will continue to be based in London and will report to Baroncini.

Wong joined Corporate Solutions in 2005 as an E&C underwriter and in 2020 was assigned the role of head of Engineering Large Risk (ELR). Throughout his time with Swiss Re, he has supported the global business unit with the underwriting of large complex projects worldwide. He is the lead underwriter on a number of major infrastructure projects including the Crossrail project in London. His expertise is recognized in the market and he previously held the position of chairman of the London Engineering Group (LEG).

Wong holds an engineering degree in civil engineering from University College London (UCL) and is a chartered professional engineer with 10 years of engineering experience prior to joining Corporate Solutions.

Chubb Promotes Houghton as Head of Distribution for UK and Ireland

Chubb announced the appointment of Jon Houghton as head of Distribution for the UK and Ireland.

In this role Houghton will have overall responsibility for developing and delivering distribution strategy across Chubb’s property and casualty, accident and health and personal lines businesses in the UK and Ireland.

Since 2016, Houghton has been Chubb’s distribution manager – National Brokers, UK and Ireland. He now will also cover independent broker partner engagement. He will continue to be based in London and report to Mark Roberts, division president United Kingdom, Ireland and South Africa. The appointment is effective immediately.

Hannah Hosking, who has successfully led independent broker distribution since 2017, continues in her current role and will now report to Houghton.

Houghton joined Chubb in 2010 as regional manager, Corporate Risks, Southern Region, before becoming development and distribution manager, UK and Ireland in 2012.

Marsh Hires AXA XL’s Latham as Alternative Risk Transfer Leader, UK & Ireland

Insurance broker Marsh announced the appointment of Matthew Latham as alternative risk transfer leader, UK & Ireland. Based in London, Latham reports to Charlie Netherton, head of Advisory Services & Strategy, UK & Ireland, Marsh.

In this role, Latham will advise clients on risk finance optimization with a focus on alternative solutions including structured reinsurance, legacy transactions, and other bespoke insurance options. As part of Marsh’s UK Financial Solutions Group, Latham will advise clients and colleagues in managing unusual or complex risks and insurance structures.

Latham will also play a key role in product innovation, particularly in the areas of complex program design relating to captives, climate and sustainability, and parametric solutions. He will work closely with Ryan Bond, head of Climate and Sustainability Insurance Innovation, and Tom Markovic in Marsh’s Parametric Solutions Center of Excellence.

Before joining Marsh, Latham was head of Global Programmes and Captives at AXA XL for seven years. He has over 25 years’ specialist industry experience in underwriting and broking, including at AIG where he led the UK Alternative Risk Transfer underwriting team.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has exposed significant gaps in operational resilience. As we move towards recovery, the insurance industry has a crucial role to play in developing new, alternative solutions that help organisations build stronger defences to future shocks,” commented Netherton.
