Snowmobilers in Illinois should properly insure their vehicles according to state insurance regulators. The Illinois Department of Insurance issued a statement saying it is encouraging enthusiasts to purchase snowmobile insurance that could help repair or replace damaged equipment or help owners if there is an accident.
“Snowmobiling is a fun and exciting recreational activity that helps remedy the winter blues, but Illinois residents should prepare for the unexpected by insuring their snowmobiles,” stated Michael T. McRaith, director of the Illinois Department of Insurance. “Consumers should talk with their insurance company or agent to discuss the risks of operating a snowmobile without insurance and the insurance options that are available.”
The department noted that insurance options available to snowmobile owners and enthusiasts include:
- An endorsement to a homeowner’s insurance policy.
- An endorsement to an auto insurance policy.
- A recreational vehicle policy.
- An umbrella policy.
